This time has really made me think about the usefulness of art. I find myself needing respite more than ever, as waves of anxiety lap at my every day. I am not a doctor or a scientist. I can’t create a vaccine, but I can share wonder & beauty. I can give a space for myself and others to rest.
I find it meditative to work on these texture pieces. Each of the white lines is applied with a small liner brush, after applying the molding paste and the base gradient of colored oil paint. I did another piece similar to this called ‘Molten River’, now sold. It was 12x12”, and I wanted to do something with bright colors and a rainbow in it peeking through, as I felt we needed something cheerful in our lives right now. The drops on the surface of this piece also make me think of the connected tears of us all, connected by our sadness, our resourcefulness, our perseverance.
I'm working on a larger piece with this same color and theme, 18x36". Look forward to that on my website in the next few months.
